Sandra Herman is a Nuke compositor, she lives in Montreal. Her compositing work can be found in the films: Prey (2022) and Kingston Paradise (2013). She has also contributed to the series: Caillou 1, Prehistoric Planet 2, F is for Family 4, Jim Henson's Doozers 2, and Little People 1 & 2.

Smoke VFX

Much closer to the look of a fire below deck. The smoke is dark to match the look of a raging fire versus the white smoke from a cannon firing in the distance. I think the yellow hot spot in the black smoke should be red.
